NEONATAL batch-identification for traceable rose propagation – PharmaRosa®

Traceability: batch-identified NEONATAL system

Varietal identity, quality and rapid intervention – fully documented

With a high varietal range (1,600), varietal identity and quality cannot be maintained on routine alone. The PharmaRosa® NEONATAL system is therefore built on a batch-manageable, traceable logic: the aim is that the propagation material’s journey from the mother stock to dispatch is identifiable, documented and traceable.

Quick summary Aim & risks Batch-identification logic Unique identifiers Documentation What should the customer do? Why is it an advantage?

In brief – why is traceability critical?

  • Varietal identity: batch-identification logic reduces the risk of identification errors.
  • Quality assurance: in the event of deviation, it enables targeted, rapid intervention.
  • Transparency: in the supply chain (integrator, reseller, projects) the batch can be identified.
  • Reduced claims: more accurate alignment (variety–batch–time) → fewer replacements.
  • Scalability: with 1,600 varieties, a documented system is not an “extra” but an operational prerequisite.
  • Own root advantage: uniform starting material + batch-handling → more stable, standardisable finishing.

Aim and risks: what does batch-identification protect?

Aim

The aim is that the NEONATAL propagation material arrives with correct varietal identity and uniform quality, and that you can also handle it in batches in your own nursery (batch planning, despatch, documentation).

Typical risks that traceability reduces

  • Identification errors with a wide varietal range (mix-ups, wrong labels, missing tags).
  • Quality variation within a batch (uneven development, uneven start).
  • Storage/holding damage (time loss → quality loss, Botrytis risk).
  • Unclear claims handling (batch cannot be identified → protracted administration).

Batch-identification logic – how should you think about it?

The essence of batch-identification is that propagation material and finishing are not managed “randomly”, but in a variety × batch × time structure. This logic provides stability with a large number of varieties.

Element What does it mean? What is your benefit?
Variety Production and handling discipline separated by variety. Lower varietal identity risk, easier traceability.
Batch Unit produced in the same programme at the same time. More uniform start, more stable batch planning.
Time Scheduling of intake/despatch linked to the technological window. Plannable capacity, fewer bottlenecks.

Unique identifiers – why are they important?

In the NEONATAL system, the purpose of unique identifiers is to ensure that the batch and variety are clearly identifiable throughout the entire process. This is particularly important where several actors are involved (supply chain, integrator, reseller, project-based despatch).

What should you also identify on the customer side?

  • Variety (name/code)
  • Batch (intake date / batch)
  • Technological route (A/B/C/D)
  • Target product (2L/3L/6L/12L or field)
  • Potting date (for the nursery log)

Note: the specific labelling and data-recording format can be adapted to your nursery’s routines; the key is a consistent batch logic.

Documentation and compliance – what does this mean in practice?

A documented, traceable process is the basis of quality assurance. The NEONATAL logic can be integrated into an operation where despatch and transport are organised, and where the required action in case of deviation can be determined quickly.

  • Batch-identified handling: the batch route (start–standardisation–despatch) can be recorded at nursery level.
  • Traceability: in case of deviation, delimitation is faster (which batch, which timing).
  • Plant passport / Plant Passport: documentation of compliance for batches going into packaging.

What should you do on the day of intake? (quick protocol)

Intake checklist (10 minutes, high impact)

  1. Identify the batch: variety, quantity, number of trays – record immediately.
  2. Check plant condition: uniform development, root system fully binding the plug (by sampling).
  3. Photo documentation: tray and label/batch tag (for your quality log).
  4. Schedule potting: preferably the same day; if you have to wait: keep cool and bright (avoid dark storage).
  5. Batch labelling: mark the technological route (A/B/C/D) and the target product.

Why is traceability an advantage in your role?

Actor Why is it an advantage?
Finishing nursery Can think in batches (start–standardisation–despatch), with less variation and better scheduling.
Integrator / project supplier Batch-identified alignment → delivery date and quality reliability, rapid deviation management.
Reseller Identifiable batches → more accurate claims handling, fewer replacements.
Breeder Transparency at order and batch level → reduced inspection burden, better accountability.

Own root – why does it strengthen batch-identification logic?

  • More uniform starting material: easier to build a standard, with less technological variation.
  • Lower risk: there is no budding or graft union, so one of the critical quality variables is eliminated.
  • Predictability: batch-manageable routes (A–D) – documentable, schedulable despatch.

Would you like a batch-identified “customer protocol” tailored to your nursery?

We can send you a short, fillable template (intake–labelling–batch log) so that NEONATAL batch-handling is organised and traceable on the customer side as well.

  • Intake and labelling template (variety–batch–route–target product)
  • Batch log with minimal fields (dates, interventions, despatch)
  • Quality photo list (what is worth documenting)
